rainy Thursday

Today, I woke up at 10 and Tom and Youngja were still asleep. It's hard to open the door with the spare mattress in my room. It's a bit prohibitive. I chatted online with Mikaela and we decided to go to Tibidabo to go to the ferris wheel on top of the mountain with a nice view of the city. Why wasn't I hanging out with Tom and Youngja? There are loads of things I've already seen that are must-see for them. Also, they keep saying not to let them get in the way. Well I literally haven't made plans so I could hang out with them, but they're too chill and don't seem enthused. I will try harder on the upcoming days.
Mikaela and I met at my subway stop and got the brown line together. As we arrived and saw the sign for the tram, it started to pour. There was a neat building across the street that we took a picture of.

We decided to go back tomorrow and to go to the Italian restaurant in Raval that we'd liked so much the first time instead. We took the subway and got off at the same market that Youngja and I went to yesterday, St. Josep La Boqueria. Today I had my camera.

We found our restaurant and had vegetable rissotto and gorgonzola gnocci again. We talked about the pluses of teaching abroad. Then we went into the internet cafe next door and spent a while trying to find a theater playing VO (original verison) Sherlock Holmes. We found one that was within walking distance so we headed out into the storm. It was pouring, but an interesting walk all the same. We were especailly interested in a tree mural on the side of a building. It seemed to be taking over!

It's not the nicest part of Barcelona, but the theater was GREAT! It was very modern, called Renoir. It had lots of pastels and metal trim on the inside. It had an extensive snack bar and confusing bathrooms with men and women in the same area. The movie was just as great the second time. I wasn't scared so I could really enjoy it and look forward to the good parts.
After the movie, we went our seperate ways. I went home to see if T&Y had come home and wanted to get dinner together but they were MIA. I went to the crepe place and had a ham and brie one.
I feel like today was a bit of a bust. I had fun, but I could have done the same thing at home. I feel like I'm just passing time until the soccer game on Saturday and maybe an adventure with Steph on Sunday, before I start a BIG adventure of my own. I'm just sort of floating in Barcelona at the moment. I am ready for a wave.

  2. PS Is that really a fruit market? It looks like a famous oil painting by one of the masters. I couldn't buy fruit there -- too much of a violation of the decor :-)

  3. That buidling was really cool -- it looks like it has a carousel on the top. Nifty!
