I'm from the aptly-named Golden State, California. As much as I love my home, I have to say I also love to leave it. I have my parents to thank for that. We went on vacations around the state, but also to Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica when I was little. My gramma also deserves some credit. She visits a different country every year and returns with stories, pictures, and souvenirs. She took my sister and I to Japan when I graduated from high school.
I started college in Arkansas at little Hendrix College, just for kicks. When it became clear that they didn't have anything I wanted to major in, I transferred to the University of Delaware. It was a place further from home, and therefore more exotic. I studied abroad on a whirlwind one-month tour of Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Hungary.
When I graduated, I couldn't get a job related to my major. So when I got an email saying, "teach English in South Korea," I applied. Less than 2 months later, I was there. I emailed my family about my experiences every day for the whole year. They claim to have enjoyed it. Now that I've completed my contract (and visited China and Thailand during breaks), I'm ready for another experience abroad and I've decided to share it in this blog.
I've signed myself up for a TEFL course in Barcelona. *TEFL is a certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I'm leaving for New York to visit a friend for New Years in 2 days and then heading straight to Barcelona on Sunday. Have I packed yet? No. Am I pumped? You betcha!
